Adding a Variable Pricing Rule
To add a variable pricing rule, do the following:
- Select More > Pharmacy.
- Select the Var. Pricing tab.
- Select the Add button. A new row appears.
- Fill in the following fields for the pricing method if required:
- Third Party: The Third Party the pricing should be applied to. If it applies to all third parties, select All.
- Custom Class: The custom class the pricing should be applied to. If it applies to all custom classes, select All.
- Apply To: The item to which the variable pricing will be applied to: the dispensing fee (Fee), the base drug cost (Cost), or the drug markup (Markup).
- Check: The criteria the pricing method is based upon (Cost, Quantity, or Days Supply).
- Min: The minimum value for the criteria specified in the Check field.
- Max: The maximum value for the criteria specified in the Check field.
- Check 2: Second check for the prescription if required.
- Min 2: The minimum value for the criteria specified in the Check 2 field.
- Max 2: The maximum value for the criteria specified in the Check 2 field.
- % Fee: The percentage of the dispensing fee to be applied to what was selected from the Apply To field. Enter the percentage in decimals (i.e., 0.10 for 10%). To subtract a percentage of the dispensing fee from what was selected under the Apply To field, enter a negative number. If the prescription meets the criteria in the Check, Min and Max fields, the markup (% Fee) is applied to the item in the Apply To field.
- % Cost: The percentage of the drug cost to be applied to what was selected from the Apply To field. Enter the percentage in decimals (i.e., 0.10 for 10%). To subtract a percentage of the drug’s base cost from what was selected under the Apply To field, enter a negative number. If the prescription meets the criteria in the Check, Min and Max fields, the markup (% Cost)is applied to the item in the Apply To field.
- Fixed $: The fixed dollar amount to be applied to the item selected in the Apply To field. To subtract a fixed dollar amount, enter a negative number.
Note: The Cap $ field automatically populates, but can be edited; it is the amount the prescription will not exceed. If you specify a number in the Total Rx $ field, this will be the final price for the prescription and no other pricing rules specified in the other fields will be applied.
- Select the Save button.
Note: Each pricing method must have a unique combination of values in the Third Party, Custom Class, Apply To, Check, Min, and Max fields. For example, you cannot create two pricing methods for the same third party that apply different fee markups based on the same criteria, such as a quantity over 500.
